Hermit's Peak

Hermit's peak is visible from most places north of Las Vegas, New Mexico.

It's a very prominent site around here in northern New Mexico. Kind of makes one wonder what kind of geologic upheaval created a monstrous rock such as this and at the same time created the Amola Ridge.

Your photos of Hermit's Peak take me way back. I worked in Las Vegas, NM, for two years, and drove that country all the time. I hiked to Hermit's Peak--to the cave itself, with its expansive views onto the far plains--something I've never forgotten. Though I now live in Kansas, New Mexico is where my heart is, especially the northern part of the state. Excellent blog and very nice photos. Tom Parker
